Indian Badminton League is a franchise league proposed by Badminton Association of India (BAI). The inaugural edition of the IBL will take place from 14 August to 31 August 2013 in India, which will have Indian as well as foreign players. The player’s auction for the first IBL was held in Delhi on 22 July 2013. The league has 6 franchises.

in the world was bagged by Mumbai Masters for $ 135000 which
is equivalent to Rs. 8,019,032 approximately. During IBL auction, this Malaysian
icon got the franchises really excited, triggering a bidding war between Mumbai
Masters and the Delhi Smashers.
Saina
Nehwal:
Saina Nehwal, Indian badminton's leading
champion, was picked by Hyderabad franchise, Hyderabad Hotshots for $
120000. Since Hyderabad is the home town of this 23-year-old Olympic bronze medalist,
her presence would give the franchise a huge boost. Her base price was set as
$ 50,000.
Parupalli
Kashyap:
Parupalli Kashyap, Commonwealth Games bronze-medalist was bought by Banga Beats for $ 75,000 (Rs4,455,622 approx). He also reached the quarter-finals of the Olympics at London last year.
Juliane Schnek:
World No.4
Juliane Schnek, the 30-year old German player was bought by the Delhi Smashers
for $ 90000. Her base price was set at $
50000.
PV Sindhu:
The
Rising star, PV Sindhu was lapped by Lucknow Warriors for $ 80,000 (Rs4,752,664
approx). He has been hailed as one of the brightest stars of Indian
badminton.
Tinh Minh Nyugen:
Tinh Minh Nyugen, Vietnamese player was
bought by the Pune Pistons for a price of $ 44000. During auction, there was a bidding
battle of sorts between Pune Pistons and Delhi Smashers.
Jwala Gutta:
The energetic doubles sensational star
Jwala Gutta was bought by Delhi Smashers at $ 31,000 (Rs1,841,699). Jwala's
base price was $ 25,000 (Rs1,485,241). Initially her base price was set as $ 50,000
but later reduced to half.
Tine Baun:
Tine Baun was sold at base price. She is the oldest player to win the
All-England Championship earlier this year. Mumbai Masters bought Tine Baun at the base
price of $ 30,000.
Taufiq Hidayat and Carsten Morgensen were sold
at base price. Hyderabad
Hotshots bought Hidayat at the base price of $15,000 and Banga Beats bought Carsten
Morgensen of Denmark at his base price of $ 50000.
Malaysia's Boon Heung Jan was
bought for $ 50,000, double the base price. V. Diju was bought by Delhi Smashers for $ 30,000. The doubles'
specialist Joachim Fischer Nielsen was
bought for $ 35,000 by Pune Pistons.
Manu Attriby was bought by Mumbai
Masters for $ 10,000. Akshay Dewalkar
was bought by Banga Beats for $ 36,000 and Tarun
Kona by Hyderabad Hotshots for $ 28,000.
