APPLE OVERTAKES MICROSOFT

I hope the sun would start rising in the west soon as things are happening which people never expects. To add a counterpart to it, Apple has surpassed Microsoft in market capitalization, so Steve Job’s becomes the largest technology company in the world. The Apple market value exceeds that of Microsoft for the first time in its history. This means that if someone now wants to buy Apple, would have to spend more money than if Microsoft wanted to buy. Until 2001, we use to talk about the iPod effect that caused an explosion of sales of Apple’s music player. The iPhone OS, the operating system which has sold multitouch million units of iPhone, iPod touch is the primary factor that makes Apple surpassing Microsoft in market value and now the IPAD do the same action. Still the thirst has not decreased as Apple will have its annual developer’s conference soon to introduce the new iPhone with lot of additional features which could increase sales, together with the value of the shares. Steve Jobs must be celebrating with his board of directors and let’s see how Microsoft is going to react.

CHROME vs FIREFOX

Google Chrome gained significant usage share last month, and it again trounced Firefox. By the end of April Chrome accounted for 6.7% of the browsers that surfed to the sites monitored by Calif.-based Net Applications for its clients. Chrome boosted its share by 0.6 percentage points, by far the largest increase of any browser for the month, and the second-highest increase since Google launched the application in September 2008. Internet Explorer dropped 0.7 percentage points to finish the month at 59.95%, the first time that IE has fallen under the 60% mark.

Mozilla Firefox, on the other hand, was up last month, albeit by only 0.07 percentage points to 24.6%. Once considered a lock to hit and then move beyond the 25% bar, Firefox has yet to reach the milestone. Mozilla's bright spot was that it has convinced nearly two-thirds of its users to upgrade to the newest Firefox, Version 3.6, which launched in January. By the end of April, 62.3% of all Firefox users were running the newest edition, while 23.6% ran 2009's Firefox 3.5 and 11.2% ran the now-unsupported Firefox 3.0.

Microsoft's newest browser, IE8, also showed strong gains last month as its market share grew by one percentage point to 24.7%; when its "compatibility view" is included, IE8 accounted for 27.6% of all browsers. Apple Inc’s Safari remained at 4.7%. Meanwhile, Opera Software's eponymous desktop browser lost share to end the month at 2.3%

GOOGLE LAUNCHES OS

Google Inc. is planning to hit Microsoft Corp. where it hurts by challenging the software giant's dominance in the world of computer operating systems. The search firm said that it will begin offering its own operating system, called Chrome, in the second half of 2010. While Google already offers a host of products that compete with Microsoft, the new operating system is a direct challenge to Microsoft Windows, which is the most widely used operating system in the world. The new system will initially be targeted at netbooks which are small, inexpensive laptop computers used mostly for Internet access.

Google said the new operating system will make use of open source programming, which allows third-party developers to design compatible add-onsMany netbooks currently run a version of Linux, or Microsoft's old operating system, Windows XP. Microsoft has said its current Vista operating system is too big to run on the scaled-down laptops, but it said netbooks will be able to run its Windows 7 OS, set to debut in late October. The new operating system comes after Google launched its Chrome Internet browser late last year.
